ARM IP Modelsask ARM*

ARM® provides a family of models of ARM IP suitable for a range of simulation environments. Each model provides a functional representation of a hardware component in the form of software which can be included into your chosen simulator.
The benefits of choosing ARM models are:

  • Validated models of ARM IP
  • Broad range of third-party tool support
  • State-of-the-art modeling technology
  • Consistent views of ARM IP from specification to implementation
  • Support for hardware and software design

Each model is validated by using the same device and architecture validation suites that ARM that certify the actual IP. ARM models make use of standard interfaces to simulation environments wherever they are available. If you have a custom simulation environment, you can extend the models to interface for your own needs.

ARM operates an extensive Partnership Program to ensure that ARM designers have access to the very latest development tools from leading EDA vendors. By providing modeling support in Partnership with our Semiconductor Partners and the EDA Vendors, we can ensure that you receive support for using ARM in a particular tool directly from the experts in that tool and with the reassurance that ARM is collaborating on the development and support of the ARM Core specifics. Look out for the "ARM Powered" logo.

The following models are also available directly from ARM:

  • RealView Model Library for the SoC Designer tool, consisting of:
    • Cycle Approximate (CX) Models for software engineers (slower than Real Time System models, but more timing accurate)
    • Cycle Accurate (CA) Models for hardware engineers (slower than CX models, but highly timing accurate)
  • Design Simulation Model (DSM) for hardware designers (the most accurate and slowest model)

Together with our Partners, we cover a broad range of development tasks:

Software development

  • Device drivers and OS porting
  • Benchmarking

System-Level Design

  • Hardware prototyping
  • Profiling and analysis
  • System specification
  • Hardware/software trade-off
  • Architectural exploration
  • Bandwidth and performance analysis
